Got to get in a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to stephicozar. Hope you had a great day and the birthday fairy was kind:-D

And for something completely different, this is just too funny. My boys, Barenaked Ladies, have done a CD for kids, and this is one of the songs from it. It is so funny, I just love it.
<lj-embed id="9" />

Not popping the champagne just yet, but...

Well, I picked Willow up from the vet, and although we won't know the result of the biopsy for another couple of days, the vet thinks that, because it got so much worse so quickly (he said he thought it had even gotten worse since he last saw her two days ago) it's more likely to be an infection that has abscessed. He's given her some more antibiotics so we hope that will do the job. But it almost broke my heart, when I left her this morning she tried to come with me:-( Her experience doesn't seem to have slowed her down any; she's still as hyper as ever:-)
Anyway, thanks for your good wishes and I'll keep you informed when I get the biopsy results.

Colorbars

Hey,
I'll make this public in case ppl want to access it to see the bars
I've made some color bars if anyone is interested. There's a Michael Shanks one and a Paul Gross one. I'm not exactly sure how to set this up - most of the other color bars I've seen have an addy to link to, but I can't work out how to do that without hotlinking, and hotlinking is bad mmkay?? So does anyone have any ideas how to do this?? Anyways, here they are, and I'll add them to my user info
too.
ETA: I've also found an SG-1 colorbar, and thanks to aizjanika's advice I've created a photobucket account so I can hotlink to my heart's content. If you're interested in any of these, just cut and paste the code in the scroll box (sorry about the background being black, I can't work out how to change it:-() If you want to use any of these, credit isn't necessary, but please leave a comment.

Michael Shanks is love

Michael Shanks is love</a></center>

Paul Gross is love

<center><a href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/willows_mom/31466.html#cutid1"><img src="http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a213/willows_mom/banner_pg.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com">
Paul Gross is love</a></center>

I also found a Stargate one that I DIDN'T MAKE but I am assured is in the public domain as no one seems to have claimed it. I'll put it up and link it here, because there's really no other blog to link it to, but I say again I DID NOT MAKE IT and I AIN'T claiming I did. And look Tyler, it even has Jonas:-D

The Stargate team is love

<center><a href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/sg15z/19964.html"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v417/SG15Z/SG1colorbar.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com">
The Stargate team is love</a></center>

I found a really nice Darren one too, but I followed the link and there's no reference to it on that person's LJ so I don't know how to ask permission to use it. I wonder if there's a Callum Keith Rennie one?? Or a Due South one??

Ch-ch-changes

Hi,
Inspired by my friend Tyler's wonderful work on updating her LJ, I thought it was time to go for a new look for mine too. I had been thinking the dark red was pretty hard on the eyes anyways, so I'm going with my second favourite colour - purple. I'm looking for a background pic too. Maybe. Depends on what I find.

Dancing Round the Maypole

It's May. The year is getting away from us.
Anyways, I got this from heuradys I have no idea what it means but I thought it was interesting.

Your brain: 120% interpersonal, 100% visual, 120% verbal, and 60% mathematical!

Congratulations on being 400% smart! Actually, on my test, everyone is. The above score breaks down what kind of thinking you most enjoy
doing. A score above 100% means you use that kind of thinking more than
average, and a score below 100% means you use it less. It says nothing
about how good you are at any one, just how interested you are in each, relatively. A substantial difference in scores between two people means, conclusively, that they are different kinds of thinkers.

Matching Summary: Each of us has different tastes. Still, I offer the following advice, which I think is obvious:

Don't date someone if your interpersonal percentages differ by more than 80%.

Don't be friends with someone if your verbal percentages differ by more than 100%.

Don't have sex with someone if their math percentage is over 200%.

 cellpadding="0" cellspacing="4">

<td bgcolor="#b2cfff"
First of all, Happy 46th Birthday Paul Gross!:-D Hope you had a good one.
Now,

I'm actually pretty ambidextrous so it's really neat that I got almost 50/50 right brain/left brain.

The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning.

Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others.

If you're left brained, you are likely good at math and logic.

Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet.

The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility.

Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way.

If you're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art.

Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports.

Are You Right or Left Brained?

And this is pretty interesting:

I really wish I could go "Friends only" because I've just come up with the perfect banner. Maybe I'll go Friends Only eventually, but I know there are a couple of ppl who sometimes read my journal and they don't have an LJ account, so that would mean they'd no longer be able to read it. Maybe I'll use these pics for an icon instead. Yeah, that's what I'll do.
In the meantime, check out the banner I made.

Farewell My Friend

I should have known today would be a bad day when I woke two hours before my alarm was due to go off, after having a distressing dream. Around midday I got a call from dad - I can tell something's wrong by the tone in his voice, and sure enough... Mum had gone out grocery shopping that morning, and had just come home to find Socrates, their Keeshond dog (sorta like a grey Samoyed) dead:-( He was a beautiful dog, and had such a gorgeous nature. He wouldn't have hurt a fly. He was so good with Willow - she'd jump and bark and egg him on, trying to get him to play, but he never snapped at her, he took it all in his stride - we used to joke that it was payback for the way he used to do the same thing to our previous dog Sunshine. The other thing about Keeshonds is that they'll bark when someone is at the door, not to scare intruders away but just to let you know that there's someone there. We would joke about that and how he usually wouldn't start to bark until the person had actually knocked on the door, by which time we were already aware someone was there, but he had to let us know anyway. He also had the ability to leap with all four legs off the ground at the one time. He was so full of life and energy, even at 13 years old, it was so strange to see him lying there, completely still, not moving:-( It was unreal. We think he had a heart attack due to old age, but whatever happened, I hope he didn't suffer, and I hope he's in a happier place.
RIP Soccy, you were a good friend and we won't ever forget you:-(

Postscript

I've just read the latest entry in Wil Wheaton's blog and read that poor Felix has passed away:-( I remember what it was like when we lost our dog Sunshine, and then our first cat Dusty and then Charlotte. After Dusty passed away I could still remember how his little fishy breath smelled, and how he would miaow (constantly!). What I wouldn't have given to have heard him miaow again. I guess it's like most relationships - even though it hurts we keep going back, it's part of life I guess. We lose one partner, we take our time to grieve and eventually start looking for another partner to share our lives. And so it is with our pets. We grieve for them and swear we'll never ever get another pet - I know my mum did after we lost Sunshine - but then she went out and adopted Plato, their Maltese (of course she didn't really have much of a choice, he just turned up on their doorstep one day). I hope Wil takes his time to grieve for poor Felix, but doesn't close his heart to the possibility of adopting another pet in time. They give us so much joy - there are times I can't imagine what I would do without my little puppy, and I really do think that I wouldn't be here if I hadn't adopted her when I did. She'll never know how much I love her and how grateful I am for her unconditional love.
Gee, that got pretty morbid didn't it.
Wil, my thoughts are with you and if I could give you a great big hug I would.

More Wil Wheaton kitty news

Hi everyone
I've been keeping updated with Wil Wheaton's blog that I've talked about before. Apparently Sketch is doing better but his other cat Felix is now not well either.
Wil, it's not stupid at all to talk to your animals as though they were human - I'm convinced they understand more than we think they do. And you may have your doubts, but I totally believe that your "talk" with Sketch had a big part to play in him feeling better.
Sending huge hugs and happy thoughts for you and both your kitties, and I'm confident that whatever happens, your heart will guide you to make the right decision.

Hi everyone,
First of all, thanks Kel/Tyler and Rachel who responded to my plea in my last entry. As you've both pointed out, I should be writing this for me, and not for anyone else.
Anyways, I was thinking, I know there are keeper lists out there, but I can't find anyone else who has claimed this, so unless anyone has any objections, I am hereby proclaiming myself the keeper of Daniel/Michael's dancing eyebrows, and lovely lips:-)

Hi again gang,
I should have done this before my rant.
I just wanna wish all my readers out there a very Happy St Patrick's Day. I'm part-Irish myself, and this day always makes me feel proud of my heritage.
So have a Guinness on me guys, and while you're at it, say hello to the Tart with the Cart, and watch out for the Stiffy by the Liffey:-)

And here's an appropriate quiz with which to finish off.
Brace Yourself

Hi everyone,
Yep, here we go, another rant.
Recently there's been two stories in the Sydney paper on which I want to comment. I really want to write to the letters page, but I feel so strongly about both that it's hard to pick one that angers me more.
First of all, a Sydney paper has found that, surprise surprise, Sydney people are rude. [sarcastic voice]Wow, that came as a complete shock, I never would have guessed [/sarcastic voice and roll eyes] Just read my past entries to see that I have known this for a long long time, and I don't think it's restricted to Sydney, it's a world-wide phenomenon. The paper came up with a whole lot of theories as to why this is the case, ranging from the rise in feminism ([cough]cop-out[/cough]) to our faster-paced lifestyle, but I still maintain that there's one thing behind it, and that's what I call the "me" syndrome. We're all too focused on building ourselves up, even from childhood we tell our kids "you're the best, you're wonderful, you're super". I'm not saying it's wrong to do that, of course each kid is wonderful, and it's right to tell them so, but the flipside of this is that if your kid is always told they're so wonderful, then how can we expect them to think much of anyone else? Yes we absolutely need to build our children's self-esteem, but not at the expense of instilling a respect for others. You are important, but so is everyone else. It comes down, again, to what I consider to be a blindingly obvious truth - how can you honestly expect others to respect you if you don't show that same respect to them? As the New Radicals said, you only get what you give.
The other issue is about a poor kitten that some teenage boys tortured and burned to death a few months ago. One of the boys was setenced to 16 months prison. Now it's been reported that his sentence has been appealed and now he only has to do 100 hours of community service. OK, there's two things wrong here - one, even if he was only watching rather than participating, if the victim was a human that would *still* warrant more than 100 hours community service. Second of all, I would like just 5 minutes alone with the solicitor who thought that 16 months in prison was too harsh a punishment for torturing and eventually killing another living being! And a sentient one at that - one that is capable of feeling fear and pain. What sort of mind thinks that an appeal against a punishment for that sort of behaviour is actually a *good* idea?? Somehow, I'm not sure I want to know. As I said, even if the boy merely watched and didn't participate (as the newspaper claims) if it was a human victim there is no way he'd get away with even 16 months in prison, let alone 100 hours community service. Why are the standards for acceptable behaviour different when the victim is an animal?? [shakes head in dismay] I guess if he was young enough and there was a chance they could get through to him then I guess I can understand it, but still, I think he deserves a harsher penalty than what he now faces.

What's New

Hey there gang,
Well I've been very slack in updating this. What's been happening?
Hmm, it looks like I may have an unsupervised prac setting which is cool. It's at the school for kids with Behavioural Difficulties at the end of my street, so I'm a bit nervous because I have trouble handling kids *without* behavioural difficulties. But my lecturer gave me some advice, and hopefully they'll give me the more well behaved kids to work with. Hopefully.
Mum and I went to see Tropfest last Sunday. For those of you who haven't heard of this, and who are too lazy to follow the link:-) it's apparently the biggest short-film festival in the world, which is pretty awesome. We went last year and there's always a great atmosphere there and the movies were all really amazing. It's amazing what ppl can do in a 7 minute movie!
Then last night I went to see The Goodies live show. I grew up watching these guys on TV, as did most Australians of around my age I think, and my sister has seen them (both separately and together) in the UK, so it was so great to finally get the opportunity to see them live too, and I must say I didn't feel disappointed in the show at all. I enjoyed it immensely and had such a great time And after seeing the eps so many times as a youngster, it was fun to get some inside info on them - stuff I never noticed as a kid.
Musically I have become almost obsessed by Lifehouse's new song. I've only heard it once or twice on the radio here, the rest of the time has been repeated streaming it over the net. I've pretty much worked out the guitar tabs and I love playing along. It's such a beautifully, romantic song and I love the fact it's in 3/4 time. Almost all popular songs are 4/4 these days so I'm very impressed when I hear one that's in a different time signature.
I will leave you with that and hopefully I'll be better at updating in future

This has been sitting in my documents folder waiting until I got my blog up and running again, and I've neglected to put it up. This is my result from the quiz that my friend Tyler devised.
Just One More

I'm a big fan of Inside the Actors Studio and at the end of each ep James Lipton asks his guests a set of 10 question, devised by...somebody French (I can never catch the name). Anyways, you all know how much I love doing quizzes, and I thought this one was a bit different.

01. What is your favorite word?
Antidisestablishmentarianism (and before you ask, yes I know what it means - I just like the sound of it:-)) Failing that, whimsy:-)

02. What is your least favorite word?
No.

03. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
Passion and innocence

04. What turns you off?
Injustice, arrogance and bad spelling

05. What is your favorite curse word?
Don't think I can say it:-)

06. What sound or noise do you love?
Music

07. What sound or noise do you hate?
An animal in pain, and probably car horns. Ppl just honk all the time now, for no reason, and it bugs the Hell outta me.

08. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Actor

09. What profession would you not like to attempt?
Politician. Actually, no I tell a lie because I think it would be rewarding if you're going into it to actually make a difference. OK, my revised answer is Lawyer. Oh, and telemarketer

10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
[edited]"I'm sorry you thought life was so hard, but from now on things will be a lot easier. Oh, and it's OK I know you didn't really mean those things you said about me"
__________________

Hi again,
On the advice of a friend (:::waves to Tyler:::) I went looking for a petition about Australia's refusal to join the Kyoto protocol, and I found one. So if anyone else out there feels like I do and want to do something positive, follow this link and sign away.
